About the Ferrari Purosangue – History, Market Significance and Specs

The Ferrari Purosangue marks a defining moment in the history of the marque: Ferrari’s first four-door, four-seat production model. Rather than calling it an SUV, Ferrari describes the Purosangue as a new category altogether — a performance car with unprecedented versatility. Powered by a naturally aspirated V12, the Purosangue delivers the unmistakable character and high-revving performance expected from Ferrari, combined with everyday usability and advanced chassis technology. Since its launch, demand for the Ferrari Purosangue has remained exceptionally strong, with waiting lists and limited production contributing to its firm market positioning. Below, explore its technical specifications, performance figures and current availability on the market.

About the Ferrari Purosangue

After a long wait, it finally arrived. In 2023, Ferrari unveiled its first SUV, the Ferrari Purosangue. The name ‘Purosangue’, meaning ‘thoroughbred’, underlines Ferrari’s intention that this is, above all, a true Ferrari.

The Purosangue features four-wheel drive, five doors and, most importantly, a naturally aspirated V12 engine. In a segment dominated by turbocharged V8s, this twelve-cylinder configuration sets the Purosangue apart from competitors such as the Lamborghini Urus and Aston Martin DBX. With the Purosangue, Ferrari has created one of the most versatile performance cars currently on the market.

Technical details

At the front sits Ferrari’s iconic 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12. The twelve-cylinder produces 725 horsepower (553 kW) at 8.250 RPM and 716 newton metres of torque at 6.250 RPM. The engine is not assisted by electric motors, maintaining the traditional character expected from Ferrari’s flagship powertrain. The four-wheel-drive system uses a transaxle layout to optimise weight distribution, with the engine mounted at the front and the 8-speed dual-clutch gearbox positioned at the rear. The Purosangue achieves an almost perfect 50/50 weight distribution and, especially for an SUV, a notably low centre of gravity. Its advanced suspension system, incorporating the TrueActive Spool Valve (TASV) technology, allows the car to deliver handling characteristics more akin to a sports car than a conventional SUV.

Performance

Despite its size and practicality, the Ferrari Purosangue delivers performance figures firmly within Ferrari territory. It accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 3.3 seconds and has a claimed top speed of 312 km/h. The adaptive suspension system reduces body roll and enhances stability, allowing the Purosangue to combine high-speed capability with everyday comfort. It can function as a refined grand tourer, yet remains sharp and responsive when driven with intent.

Dimensions and weight

The Ferrari Purosangue is the first four-door, four-seat production car in Ferrari’s history. It stands 1.589 mm tall, which is relatively low for an SUV. The Purosangue measures 4.973 mm in length, 2.088 mm in width and has a wheelbase of 3.018 mm. With a dry weight of 2.033 kg, it remains lighter than many of its direct competitors.

Design

Ferrari’s Chief Design Officer, Flavio Manzoni, was responsible for the Purosangue’s design. Ferrari does not position the Purosangue as a traditional SUV, but rather as a new category altogether. Instead of a boxy silhouette, the Purosangue features sleek proportions, muscular surfacing and a low stance that aligns with Ferrari’s design language. Clients can personalise the car extensively through Ferrari’s Tailor Made programme, allowing for a high degree of exterior and interior customisation.

Interior

The interior of the Purosangue offers genuine accommodation for four occupants, with individual bucket seats in both the front and rear. Rear passengers access the cabin through rear-hinged doors, improving entry and exit. There is no provision for a fifth passenger, as the rear seats are separated by a fixed centre console. The cockpit follows Ferrari’s driver-focused philosophy, with key controls integrated into the steering wheel. An optional panoramic roof enhances the sense of space, while the 473-litre boot can be expanded electrically by folding the rear seats.

Prices

As expected, the Ferrari Purosangue commands a significant price. In Europe, the starting price is around 500.000 euros. At present, relatively few examples of the Ferrari Purosangue are available for sale, which has supported strong residual values on the secondary market.
