About the Ferrari SF90
Introduced in 2020, the Ferrari SF90 Stradale marked a defining moment in Ferrari’s road car development as the brand’s first plug-in hybrid production model. Positioned as the flagship at launch, the SF90 ushered in a new era of electrified Ferrari performance while remaining true to the marque’s core philosophy.
Rather than relying on a traditional V12, the SF90 combines a twin-turbocharged V8 with three electric motors. This advanced hybrid architecture distributes power to all four wheels, delivering exceptional performance alongside short-distance electric driving capability. Alongside the coupé, Ferrari introduced the open-top SF90 Spider, followed by the more extreme SF90 XX Stradale and SF90 XX Spider, the first road-legal XX models in Ferrari history.
Technical details
At the heart of the Ferrari SF90 lies a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 derived from the unit found in the Ferrari F8 Tributo. While sharing its foundation, the SF90 engine features revised turbochargers, redesigned intake and exhaust systems, a modified cylinder head and strengthened internal components including crankshaft and pistons.
The combustion engine alone produces 780 horsepower. Combined with three electric motors, total system output reaches 1.000 HP 735 kW, making it the most powerful Ferrari production road car at the time of its introduction.
Two electric motors are mounted on the front axle, each driving a front wheel, while a third motor is integrated between the engine and the 8-speed dual-clutch transmission at the rear. This configuration enables all-wheel drive and torque vectoring. The SF90 can operate in fully electric mode, offering a range of up to 25 kilometres and a top speed of 135 km/h without engaging the combustion engine.
For drivers seeking a more focused specification, the optional Assetto Fiorano package includes Multimatic dampers, carbon-fibre components and wheels, a larger rear spoiler and a titanium exhaust system, reducing weight by approximately 30 kilograms and sharpening the car’s dynamic response.
Performance
The Ferrari SF90 delivers performance figures that position it among the fastest production cars ever built by the marque. Around Ferrari’s Fiorano test circuit, it recorded a quicker lap time than the LaFerrari, underlining the effectiveness of its hybrid system and aerodynamic development.
With the full 1.000 horsepower deployed, the SF90 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of 340 km/h. Active aerodynamics generate up to 390 kilograms of downforce at 249 km/h, contributing to remarkable high-speed stability and cornering performance. The intelligent all-wheel-drive system ensures power is distributed efficiently, delivering immense traction and precision under acceleration.
Dimensions and weight
Despite incorporating a battery pack and hybrid components, the Ferrari SF90 maintains an impressively low dry weight of 1.570 kilograms. The battery itself weighs just 72 kilograms, reflecting Ferrari’s focus on weight optimisation. The SF90 measures 4.710 mm in length, 1.972 mm in width and 1.186 mm in height, giving it a compact and aggressive stance consistent with Ferrari’s mid-engined supercar architecture.
Prices
At launch, the Ferrari SF90 Stradale carried a base price of approximately €500.000 in Europe. The SF90 Spider commands a premium over the coupé, while the Assetto Fiorano package adds roughly €50.000 to the original list price.
The more extreme SF90 XX Stradale and SF90 XX Spider were introduced at significantly higher prices and now trade on the secondary market at well above €1 million, reflecting their limited production numbers and heightened performance credentials.
