The Ferrari 250 GT/E 2+2 holds a special place in Ferrari’s history as the brand’s first true four seater, introduced in 1960. Designed by Pininfarina, it combines elegant lines with the comfort of a true grand tourer, without compromising on performance. Under the bonnet lies the renowned 3.0 litre Colombo V12, producing approximately 240 horsepower, paired with a 4 speed manual gearbox. With a top speed of around 230 kmh, it delivered impressive performance for its time, while the extended wheelbase and clever packaging allowed for genuinely usable rear seats.
What makes the 250 GT/E particularly interesting is the way Ferrari adapted the chassis and layout compared to other 250 models. The engine was positioned slightly further forward, creating additional space for rear passengers without disturbing the car’s proportions. This made it one of the first Ferraris truly suitable for long distance travel with four occupants, something that was highly unusual for the brand at the time.
In addition, the 250 series is known for its exceptional balance between performance and reliability. The Colombo V12 is not only powerful but also smooth and refined, perfectly matching the GT/E’s character as a luxury grand tourer. Combined with independent front suspension and a solid rear axle, the car offers a comfortable yet engaging driving experience, typical of Ferrari in the early 1960s.
The 250 GT/E was produced in three series, with subtle differences in details and finish. With a production of approximately 950 examples, it became Ferrari’s best selling model at the time, playing a crucial role in the company’s growth. Its success enabled Ferrari to invest in the development of more extreme sports and racing cars that followed. Today, the 250 GT/E is increasingly appreciated for its elegance, usability and historical significance, and is now recognized as an important link in the evolution of Ferrari.
